I‘m trying to remember to mark and enjoy these m I‘m trying to remember to mark and enjoy these milestones on the Ph.D. journey. There’s still a ton of work to do — this isn’t even to the writing step, but I am still excited to have this complete. It’s 54 months of magazine content showing what a bunch of average readers between 1857-1861 wrote in (to one of the very first popular women’s magazines) for advice about.  I‘m also excited that someday this data can be part of an open-access public project.
I’ve studied this 19th century women’s magazin I’ve studied this 19th century women’s magazine for the past four years through digital copies and library loans, but never owned a hard copy volume myself until now. Many thanks to the St James Episcopal Church Charity Shop in Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire, Scotland for listing their old books online so this bedraggled little friend could find me on a grad student budget. It’s Series 1, Volume 6, (May 1857 to April 1858), part of the small range my dissertation specifically focuses on, of all the luck.
