This book was originally published serially in 24

This book was originally published serially in 24 parts over the course of 2 years (1859-1861). I have them marked out to identify timing, but noticed today there’s a small sensory delight in the pattern the part splits make - imagine its original readers (and there were many of them!) collecting them all originally and putting together a fat little book from all these small pamphlets.

So today, on what would have been my sweet dad’s 70th birthday, I know he would love it that I’m spending the day deep in research of primary source documents from the 1800s, writing my doctoral dissertation. “It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.” And he’d also see the humor in this picture, like I do.
