| Volume Six: 1857 May to 1858 April – Series 1, Volume 6, Numbers 1-12 This is the first volume in which, according to biographers, Isabella Beeton is actively working as a contributor of recipe and fashion material for the EDM. Each of the 12 number in this Volume contains 32 pages, and is priced at Twopence, except for November (see below). There are 3 ways of accessing it online, linked below. The Internet Archive has a scanned volume, from the holdings of the Detroit Public Library, of Volume 6 only. Google Books and Hathi Trust both have the same scan of a bound volume from the holdings of UCLA Libraries, which includes Vol. 5 and 6 together and include much rare peripheral material, including magazine covers, supplements, and advertisements, which are often missing from scanned volumes. – Vol. 6 begins on PDF p. 535. | Volume Seven: 1858 May to 1859 April – Series 1, Volume 7, Numbers 1-12 During this year, Isabella Beeton is actively working as a contributor of recipe, advice, and fashion material for the EDM. The editors begin to ask for reader contributions to what will become Beeton’s Book of Household Management, which will begin serial publication as supplemental material with the next volume. Each number in this Volume contains 32 pages, and is priced at Twopence. There are 2 versions accessible online, linked below. The Internet Archive has a scanned volume, from the holdings of the Detroit Public Library. It does not include peripheral magazine material like covers, advertisements, or supplements. Its index is a separate file. It has no digital watermark. Hathi Trust has a Google Books scan of a bound volume including both Volume 7 and 8, from the holdings of UCLA Libraries. It includes some peripheral materials, but is missing others. It displays digital watermarks from both Google Books and The University of California Libraries. | Second Series Begins (a.k.a. New Series, N. S., Second Series, Series 2) Format change due to repeal of the paper duty. Switch in numbering, to 6 numbers per volume rather than 12. Larger size: 8″ x 5″ instead of previous 7″ x 4.5″, and 48 pages instead of 32. Includes changes to several regular features (example table of contents below from No. 1). Correspondence is now included in the pages of the magazine (and thus survives when covers and ads are stripped for some volume publications). Triple the price: 6d instead of 2.
